OVERVIEW
Bordered by Prospect Park on the East, 4th Avenue on the West, the Prospect Expressway to the South and Flatbush Avenue to the North, Park Slope can be found on the Northwestern part of Brooklyn.
LANDMARKS
A highly desirable neighborhood, Park Slope is adjacent to Prospect Park, a 585 acres public park that’s operated by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. The park’s main entrance, the Grand Army Plaza, is a renowned landmark that’s composed of oval rings arranged as streets.
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, arguably one of the most renowned botanical gardens in the state, can also be found in Prospect Park. Expect plant collections, plant pavilions, glass houses, and much more.
ASTORIA
ART
Hosting over a million works of art, the Brooklyn Museum is the third largest in New York City and can be found in Park Slope. Also in the area: the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, a performing arts venue usually highlighting progressive performances.
DINING
Fifth Avenue (“the other Fifth Avenue,” as known by some) is the dining mecca of Park Slope. Brunch spots, high-end dinner destinations, and cheap eatsthrive in an area clearly defined by its eclectic food offerings.
SHOPPING
Locally made, eco-friendly shopping destinations abound in Park Slope. Head to the Community Bookstore for an authentic book-shopping experience or do some good while revamping your wardrobe at Life Boutique Thrift, a not-for-profit thrift store.
NIGHTLIFE
Certainly not known for its club scene; instead, it is known for its beloved local late-night destinations, Park Slope boasts some of New York’s most endearing private gems. These include Barbès, a cozy bar playing different sorts of live music each night, Union Hall, a bi-level live performance space, and Beauty Bar Brooklyn, the bar’s seventh US location.
TRANSPORTATION
Many subway lines run through the area: F, G, 2, 3, 4, 5, D, N, Q and R. The B61, B63, B67 and B69 also serve the independent neighborhood.
