Flanked to the west by the Tyrrhenian Sea, bordering the region of Lazio, the area of Maremma includes some of Southwestern Tuscany and part of the Northern side of Lazio.

Grosseto is a city found in the heart of Maremma that also houses the Medicean Walls, originally built to protect the city’s border and now utilized as a public park and walking area. Other institutions include the Cathedral, the Church of San Francesco and the Palazzo Aldobrandeschi.

A popular destination for agritourism, Maremma clearly values the importance of natural and fresh foods. The region is also a major site of wine production.
Within the city of Grosseto, typical foods include the schiaccia con cipolle e acciughe (oven-baked bread with onions and anchovy) and the schiaccia alla pala (oven-baked bread with olive oil).

Navigating inside and outside of the region is easiest through the city of Grosseto. The Pisa-Livorno-Rome railway line is the most utilized in the area.
