OVERVIEW

Nestled on the lower West side of Manhattan and stretching from 14th to 29th Street on the Southern and Northern borders and Broadway and the Hudson River on the Eastern and Western borders, Chelsea has developed into an art, dining, shopping, and nightlife-reliant neighborhood.

LANDMARKS

Popular Chelsea sights include the man-made High Line, the sports and entertainment complex Chelsea Piers, and the waterfront Hudson River Park.

Built on a freight rail line back in 2009, the High Line is a man-made outdoor park that rests atop the city. With a myriad of dining options and an expanse of green in an otherwise heavily urban city, the park has rendered the neighborhood a must-see destination.

Chelsea Piers is a 28-acre sports and entertainment complex overlooking the Hudson River. Offering residents a variety of children and adult-friendly activities (mini golf, bowling, hockey, wall climbing, amongst others), the space endows the neighborhood with a sense of comfort and intimacy that other areas lack.

The longest waterfront park in the United States, Hudson River Park has become a modern urban recreational destination. Offering a variety of both land and water-based activities, the urban park is ideal for children and adults alike. Canine companions are welcome to utilize the various dog paths.

ASTORIA

ART

Unofficially the epicenter of Manhattan’s art world, Chelsea’s art district stretches from West 18th Street to 27th Street between 10th Avenue and 11th Avenue. Boasting over 350 galleries, most world-renowned, the neighborhood has become the premier destination for both artists and art-lovers.

SHOPPING

Chelsea offers a wide variety of shopping destinations, catering to both big retailers and smaller boutique vendors, all anchored in the Ladies Mile Historic Shopping District (Sixth Avenue between 14th Street and 23rd Street), which is home to several major chain stores (Bed Bath & Beyond, the Container Store, Old Navy, and TJ Maxx).

A more modern addition to the neighborhood, Chelsea Market, on 9th Avenue between 15th Street and 16th Street, is a converted warehouse that now houses 35 restaurants and retailers–making it one of the neighborhood’s, and the entire city’s, most celebrated destinations.

DINING

Chelsea’s dining scene is an amalgamation of the world’s most sought after cuisines. In addition to the gourmet food shops and high-end restaurants to be found within Chelsea Market, residents can expect a slew of lone standing eateries, many of which have established second locations in the area in order to capitalize on the neighborhood’s geographic position, reaching both downtown and uptown audiences.

NIGHTLIFE

With a variety of rooftop lounges, underground bars, hotel bars, and nightclubs in the area, Chelsea’s ranking in the city’s nightlife world has been on a steady rise. The Tippler, underneath Chelsea Market, Gallow Green, a highly trafficked rooftop lounge, and the outdoor bar at the Maritime Hotel are all well-known destinations.

TRANSPORTATION

You’ll be able to move in and out of Chelsea by both bus (M7, M10, M11, M14, and M23) and subway (A, B, C, D, E, F, L, M, N, Q, R, W, 1, 2, 3 and 7).
