Madison Square Park Hosts Massive Free Italian Festival Today

New York City is getting a vibrant taste of the sweet life today. In celebration of Festa della Repubblica, the national holiday marking the founding of the Italian Republic, Madison Square Park is hosting its first ever Ciao Day.

Taking place this afternoon from noon to 4:00 pm, the free public festival transforms the Manhattan plaza into a bustling Italian market. Visitors can expect live brass bands, floral café tables, caricature artists, face painting, and children’s storytelling sessions hosted by Sullaluna.

Naturally, the real highlight of the celebration is the food. A curated market will offer free tastings from some of New York’s top Italian spots, including Eataly, Café Carmellini, Scarpetta, DiMarco, and Piadi. Visitors can also catch a special collaboration between Rosetta Bakery and the historic Italian cured meat producer Ferrarini.

Additionally, the festival’s main sponsor, Sammontana Gelati all’Italiana, Italy’s leading gelato brand, will be debuting its new American product lineup. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample ten of their new gelato bars, sandwiches, and cones ahead of the official launch.

Organized by the Madison Square Park Conservancy, Ciao Day is part of an ongoing mission to bring community driven cultural experiences to public spaces. The festival also marks the continuation of a partnership with Sammontana, following their popular beach club makeover in the park last summer.
