Although not technically deemed a landmark, the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway’s importance is undeniable. Connecting Red Hook, Dumbo, Brooklyn Heights and Williamsburg, the protected bike path runs along the East River and promotes the ecofriendly lifestyle that Brooklyn is known for.

Echoing the vibe found in other parts of Brooklyn, the shopping scene in Red Hook highly relies on independent boutiques and stores. Amongst the most notable: the Chelsea Garden Center, offering a large selection of greenery and gardening tools, the Everbrite Mercantile Company, boasting handcrafted and antique accessories and apparel, and Metal & Thread, where you’ll find a variety of locally made items.
DINING
Hard to reach by public transportation, Red Hook offers a variety of dining destinations that limit residents’ need to travel outside of the neighborhood. Its waterfront status also translates into delectable seafood restaurants. In addition to brick-and-mortar eateries, expect a vivacious food truck scene.
NIGHTLIFE
Red Hook is home to a variety of local bars, cocktail havens, and Irish pubs. Some honorable mentions: the Brooklyn Icehouse, the quintessential neighborhood dive bar, and Botanica, which offers some of the best cocktails in the area.
TRANSPORTATION
Subway service in Red Hook is limited (closest lines are the F and G train, but both require a 30-minute walk or a transfer to the B61 bus). Other modes of transportation include the New York Water Taxi and the bike path on the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway.
