OVERVIEW
Spanning over 92 acres from Chambers Street to Battery Place on the North/South and from the Hudson River to West Street on the East/West border, Battery Park City is a suburban neighborhood on the Western lower part of Manhattan.
LANDMARKS
Popular Battery Park City sights include the 9/11 Memorial, a variety of museums (Museum of Jewish Heritage, the Irish Hunger Memorial, the Skyscraper Museum), and the recently renovated Brookfield Place.
Commemorating the September 11 attacks on New York City, the 9/11 Memorial is located at the World Trade Center site, is operated by a non-profit corporation, and was officially opened to the public on September 12, 2011.
Originally the World Financial Center, Brookfield Place is home to a variety of offices (American Express and Merrill Lynch, amongst others) alongside a slew of shopping and dining destinations.
The abundance of parks and greenery defining the area also render it a prime location for a suburban-within-the city lifestyle. Within the 36 acres of parks and gardens, Battery Park certainly stands out.
